Legend of Dragon Son-in-law

Chapter 2549: Endless Cycle

Chapter 2549: Endless Cycle

The icy blade and the waves of pain crashing over him left no doubt in Julius Reed’s mind that this was real.If it had been before, Nelson probably wouldn’t have had this ability.

But now, Nelson had learned a set of swordsmanship from inside the Twin Dragon Jade Pendant, while Julius Reed had burned through a huge amount of Spiritual Power in his fight against the Archbishop and Silvio Reed!

And so, everything happened.

A weakened male lion had run into a full-of-energy tigress.

Julius Reed curled his lips into a grin and said nothing.

He could be sure that the person in front of him really was Nelson.

From the very first time they met, he’d known the woman on the white horse was Nelson.

She wasn’t an imposter, and she wasn’t being controlled.

Maybe Silvio Reed was right—by walking this path, Julius Reed was destined to face all kinds of accusations.

"I don’t believe this is what you truly want." Facing the already somewhat deranged Nelson, Julius Reed slowly pulled the sword out of his chest.

Bit by bit.

The piercing, bone-deep chill, and the agony of blood draining away.

Julius Reed wasn’t worried he’d die from blood loss. He had the Blood of God in his body—even if his own blood ran dry, that special existence, the Blood of God, could keep him alive.

He wouldn’t die, but he would be seriously wounded.

"If you want to kill me, you’ll have to wait a little longer."

Julius Reed gave a bitter smile, with no intention of blaming Nelson. "My life has its purpose. Once I’ve killed Silvio Reed, wiped out the injustice in this world, and forged a new order, I’ll let you kill me—if, by then, you still want to."

"Is this world really that important to you? For a bunch of people who have nothing to do with you? For people who spend all day wishing you were dead? For those who will never, ever be grateful, you fight for them, yet you won’t help me revive my master."

Disappointment and grief were tangled in Nelson’s words.

"Why? Silvio Reed only asked you to let him go! You could’ve let him go and caught him again! But you—you didn’t agree, and Silvio Reed still ran away! Why!" She squatted on the ground in agony, sobbing uncontrollably.

"If anyone else asked me that question, I’d never explain."

Looking at the blood coating his hands, Julius Reed still wore a smile. "Not letting him go is a matter of principle. If you’re alive, you have to have your own principles and bottom line. Once you break them once, you’ll break them countless times. Besides, that’s my attitude toward Silvio Reed: chase him hard, never let go."

"I’ve said all I need to say. The decision is in your hands."

Julius Reed pressed a hand to his wound and spoke with a doting tone. "I’m betting you won’t kill me."

"Why?"

Nelson asked, eyes red.

"You know how important my master is to me. You know. You know. And yet you clearly can help me—you don’t even have to pay any real price. Julius Reed, you don’t love me at all. I’m just your plaything, isn’t that right?"

Her voice was on the verge of turning hoarse.

"Just what I thought." Julius Reed spread his hands and lay on the ground, lacing his fingers behind his head in a posture of utter ease. "I was wondering, would a woman as dumb as Nelson really pull something this extreme? Maybe she would—after all, the Southern Sea Divine Nun means the world to her. And Silvio Reed did send you a recording of our conversation."

He spoke in a tone of complete relaxation. "True and false, hearts are hard to read—I still had to think it through. Illusion trials are illusions, in the end; they just exploit what I know of Nelson. But the moment Nelson actually drew her sword, I realized I’d underestimated how deep her feelings for me ran."

"You should have updated by then, but too bad—I was already inside."

Julius Reed stopped thinking about anything at all and simply lay on the ground, quietly waiting.

In the distance, Nelson froze.

Then slowly faded away!

At the same time, a stream of information poured into Julius Reed’s mind.

It was a sequence of images!

In the images, Julius Reed was remotely controlling his flying sword.

The flying sword was pointed at himself!

The place where he was actually standing was Nelson’s position.

And the spot where he thought he was standing was exactly where the flying sword hovered!

If, when Nelson had struck just now, Julius Reed had reacted, or if he had harbored the intention to kill Nelson, he would have ended himself with his own hand.

Just like years ago, when Devlin experimented on him.

There was only one way to kill Julius Reed: make him kill himself!

Obviously, the Twin Dragon Jade Pendant had miscalculated.

"The gifts destiny gives you all have their prices marked. Congratulations, you won this gamble."

A voice slowly echoed around him.

There was nothing anywhere around him.

"And what was the stake?" Julius Reed asked aloud.

"Your life."

"Then what did I get?" Julius Reed probed the surroundings—there was nothing there at all.

In this vast, empty space, he was the only one.

There wasn’t the slightest trace of anyone else.

"What you gained is equal in value to what you wagered."

"I bet my life—are you going to give me a life in return?"

Julius Reed found it absurd.

He couldn’t help shaking his head and asking again, "Who are you? What’s the secret behind this Twin Dragon Jade Pendant?"

"Sorry. You won this round and you’ll receive the reward you deserve. But there are some things you don’t need to know, and don’t have to know. What you’ve gained—you’ll understand in time."

Once the voice finished speaking, the environment around him collapsed.

Julius Reed returned to that milk tea shop once more.

It looked like the game was still going, with no sign of stopping.

If it were anyone else, they would have died in that last round.

Even if they survived like Julius Reed, when they saw the situation they were in, they’d be overcome with despair.

Because this meant they were trapped in an infinite loop, with little hope of escape!

Every round was a trial that could kill you!

"Another gamble? What’s the stake this time?"

Julius Reed spoke up. "I’ve already bet my life once. Logically, the stakes should only get higher from here. How are you going to raise the ante now?"

There was still no answer.

The surroundings were deathly quiet.

So quiet it was almost terrifying.

"Not talking, huh?"

Julius Reed lowered his head and realized his body had fully recovered—there wasn’t a trace of his previous wound.

He walked out of the milk tea shop and stood on the street.

The rain had passed and the sky had cleared.

It was already daytime.

A hazy mist hung in the air, veiling the sun.

And just then—

Someone suddenly appeared!

Since entering this world, this was the first anomaly Julius Reed had seen!

Though his eyes could not see, the Eyes of God were everywhere.

Behind Julius Reed, Silvio Reed suddenly appeared.

Empty-handed, he walked toward him, step by step.

"Good disciple, I’m going to kill you now."

Silvio Reed strolled over with a smile. His fists were clenched tight as he walked right up to Julius Reed.

"I’m so glad we can meet again."

With that, he threw a punch!

Bam!

Julius Reed didn’t hesitate in the slightest—he met the punch head-on!

Boom!

The moment their fists collided—

The world around them went pitch-black.

Then in the blink of an eye, light returned.

Julius Reed was lying on the ground, surrounded by the devastation left in the wake of a massive battle.

"I’m out?"

He slowly pushed himself to his feet.
