Chapter 185: Decision & Relaxation
Chapter 185: Decision & Relaxation
After thinking for a moment, Gideon looked at Percy.
"Percy, contact your colleagues and ask them for everything they know about this aberrant. Maybe they have newer information. And yes, we’ll need to get rid of it eventually, but first we need to gather as much information as possible."
He pointed toward the monitor displaying the field of Pyrovour Borealis. "In the meantime, make the area around it a prohibited zone if possible. And I want constant observation of the surrounding region. Keep monitoring it, Percy."
He paused for a second before adding what he believed was the most important possibility.
"Because if someone deliberately placed those Grave Flowers there, then there’s a chance they’ll come back. And if they do, they might try to destroy the evidence before we have a chance to deal with it ourselves or some poor guy that gets stranded will try to destroy that thing."
Everyone in the room nodded. The reasoning was simple enough for them to understand immediately.
Especially Jade, who continued watching him for several seconds before speaking again.
"You really are unlucky, huh? It’s only the first week of winter and you’re already dealing with an emergency."
Gideon let out a quiet sigh and ran a hand through his hair. "It can’t be helped. It’s not like this world was ever peaceful to begin with."
After glancing around the room, he pushed himself away from the table. "Why don’t we continue this discussion in the recreational room downstairs?"
Jade stood up immediately, and Elaine followed right behind her. Aaron merely narrowed his eyes when Gideon shot him a look that clearly told him he wasn’t invited.
"I don’t want to hear any moaning from up here. We have a child in the tower, you know," Aaron said dryly.
"Sh-shut up! I’m not a child!" Eugene’s face instantly turned red.
Aaron ignored him. "Also, be careful with the shaking. At your rate, your thrusts might bring down the entire tower."
This time Gideon answered with a middle finger. The elevator doors closed just as Aaron burst out laughing.
When they arrived at the recreational room, Elaine immediately headed toward the kitchen to prepare tea while Jade wandered over to the kitchen counter and began searching for snacks.
A few minutes later, both women returned carrying entirely different things. Elaine brought a tray holding a steaming teapot, several cups, milk, and a bowl of sugar cubes. Jade helped clear a space on the table before Elaine carefully set everything down.
Without even asking, Elaine poured tea for Gideon, Jade, and herself.
She had always preferred tea over coffee.
"Hm. Earl Grey," Jade commented after taking a sniff. She dropped a cube of sugar into her cup before adding a splash of milk.
Gideon raised an eyebrow. "Wow. You’re actually knowledgeable about tea?"
"I mean, I think most people can recognize Earl Grey just from the smell." Jade shrugged. "It’s pretty distinctive, you know?"
She took a sip. Almost immediately, a relieved expression spread across her face.
"This is good, Elaine. You finally figured out the perfect temperature and brewing time?"
"Yup." Elaine smiled slightly as she lifted her own cup. "It was a bit difficult because the water here is hard. Still, it’s much better than that aberrant water."
She made a face. "Honestly, calling that stuff water is being generous. It’s just some weird liquid pretending to be water."
Jade laughed into her cup.
Meanwhile, Gideon added three sugar cubes to his tea before stirring it slowly. The warmth spread through his hands the moment he picked up the cup.
After spending the last hour discussing monsters, disasters, and the possibility of entire settlements dying during winter, the simple heat was enough to ease some of the tension lingering in his body.
"Anyway, should I decline the invitation to the Mercenary Guild Annual Banquet?"
"I know someone who declined the invitation and never got invited again. You should go, Gideon, and bring your chef," Jade commented.
"How did you know about that?" Gideon blinked. He had never told anyone about the chef part.
"I talked to the fox, and she said she found someone interesting. I guessed it was you."
"Fox? You mean Lin Yue?"
"Yup, that’s her name."
"So she’s called Fox, huh?" he tilted his head before narrowing his eyes slightly. "But you didn’t tell her anything about me, right?"
Gideon looked at her suspiciously. He knew exactly how people like Lin Yue operated.
She liked probing people for information, checking their reactions, and prying them open until she got what she wanted.
He would not be surprised if she had tried to learn more about him through Jade.
"Of course not. It doesn’t benefit me in any way. Besides, I don’t like her that much either." Jade shrugged.
"So that means you can’t bring me as your plus one, right?" Elaine suddenly asked, causing everyone to look at Gideon. "Since Jade will probably bring either Kana or Kilian with her."
"It can’t be helped. The best chef I have is still Delilah."
Hearing that, Jade suddenly snorted. She immediately covered her mouth, but the laugh still escaped. Gideon frowned. There was absolutely nothing funny about what he had just said.
Even Elaine looked confused, wearing almost the same puzzled expression he probably had right now.
"What’s wrong with bringing Delilah?"
"Nothing!" Jade quickly replied. "Just bring her! She’ll be a great addition!"
Despite her answer, she still looked like she was trying very hard not to laugh. Before Gideon could think further about it, Elaine had already moved on to something else.
"I want compensation for making me feel disappointed." She crossed her arms and grinned. "I wonder what Aaron meant by all that shaking and moaning. Are you sleeping with Freya after I told you to keep pumping her to get her pregnant, right?"
Gideon couldn’t help liking where the conversation was heading.
"Something like that. Do you want a night full of nasty sex as compensation? Because I’d gladly give it to you." A smirk formed on his face.
His thoughts drifted to the BDSM dungeon that he rarely used. Even so, he still occasionally updated it whenever he found interesting toys for his harem.
Maybe tonight would be a good opportunity to finally make use of it again.
"Nice. I’ll come too. You’re okay with a threesome, right?" Jade asked.
Even better.
