Chapter 1260 - 38: Wild Plan
This was a picture intercepted from the enemy SkyNet Information, originating from the battlefield information recorder of a Jiepeng Mecha involved in the massacre. In the picture, the sky was still so blue, and the clouds so white. The distant green mountains, like the forests by this lake, were lush. Yet beneath this beautiful scenery lay hell on earth.
The scene in the photo was a street in a mountain town. The street was in the style of ancient buildings, and the information recorder on the seven-meter-high Mecha was pointed at a scene of devastation.
Many buildings on both sides had become charred ruins. Beneath intact ones, some Jiepeng soldiers were kicking doors with guns in hand. On the other side of a roof with a big hole, the head and shoulders of another Mecha were exposed, with the white flash and shooting line of an Energy Cannon frozen in the photo.
In the distance, teams of ordinary people were being driven out of the alleys in terror, moving away. Even further, countless plumes of black smoke were drifting into the sky.
The ancient streets of the small mountain town had lost their original color. There were craters of varying sizes, shattered glass, twisted door frames, and signs scattered everywhere. Corpses piled on the streets in layers, scattered haphazardly, uncountably dense. The flowing blood gathered beneath them, like a black-red river.
A woman lay by the wall, her face obscured by hair, one shoe still on her foot while the other lay far away. Beside her lay a middle-aged man in mechanic overalls, half of his shoulder and chest gone, with fresh blood gushing out, painting the pale yellow wall behind him a shocking red.
About a meter away from the mechanic, an elderly man with white hair was kneeling by a streetlamp. His head was drooping on the ground, body arched, leaning crookedly against the lamppost. Blood, from some unknown part of his body, had flowed out sticky and thick, forming a large puddle on the ground.
And in the pool of blood, there was an overturned baby carriage.
Beside the baby carriage, a still-swaddled child lay silently in the blood, like a doll discarded by a demon.
In less than five minutes, Fatty was back at the camp.
Along the way, he and Milan did not speak.
Having fought so many wars, he had seen destroyed cities, doomsday scenes left in ruins by war. He had seen countless innocent victims, yet they had never been so angry!
On modern immigrant planets, most have populations of only one or two hundred million, with some having as few as a few million.
On these planets, people live in cities—supercities spread across the planet, connected by resource roads and space ports, are everything the planet is.
Once war breaks out, naturally it impacts the cities. Civilians left in the city with nowhere to go at the start of a war die from wild bombardment, from Mecha attacks, from infantry shootings, unsurprisingly.
But Canglang Star is not an ordinary Level 2 or 3 Immigrant Planet.
This is a populous Level 1 Immigrant Planet with countless small towns. Besides large cities like other immigrant planets, it also has many small cities, numerous settlements, and agricultural towns!
These settlements and agricultural towns are simply to meet human habitation needs and have no major strategic significance. The inhabitants are unarmed civilians. Places like this are meant to be ignored by invaders with limited military forces, originally havens in early wars, sanctuaries for large city residents to escape war fires.
Yet, in this world, there are always such damned scum. There were some in Marspro Town before, now there are some on this Canglang Star! To weed out these two divisions unable to stir waves in the deep mountains, the Jiepeng people marshaled troops, committing inhumane massacres in surrounding towns!
One can imagine what result an armored platoon rushing into a small town with twenty or thirty thousand people would yield!
These damned executioners only need to pull the trigger on the energy machine gun control lever of the Mecha to flatten such towns with classically styled eco-friendly light composite buildings in half an hour!
In front of the Mecha, in front of those Unhindered Stride Energy Cannons, such a town is no different from paper ones, and civilian flesh can only be torn apart, pierced through!
The camp was already deathly silent.
The leisurely atmosphere under the sun had long vanished without a trace. The jungle temperature seemed to drop several degrees due to the one by one iron-colored warriors. Looking over the camp, only grief and anger could be seen!
Stopping the Mecha, Fatty walked through the crowd, looking at the men beside him. Many warriors had reddened eyes.
They were warriors, soldiers sworn to defend this country, every inch of this land, and every fellow citizen. They were unafraid of fighting the enemy. The day they stepped onto the battlefield, they had already cast aside thoughts of life and death. Nothing could make them sad, not even when they were near despair before, they had not shed a tear out of fear!
They could face death calmly, but not face such slaughter upon their kin! The departed lives drifted under this sky!
