Chapter 146 Tickets are sold out

Chapter 146 Tickets are sold out

After the incident in the slums Uriel struggled to find a way to fulfill his oath. Truth be told, he wasn't expecting to find answers anytime soon soon, but he somewhat knew what steps he needed to take in order to find out more about the ancient people. He needed to enter a dungeon to learn more about them, but the only one he knew was the one located beneath the Alamo.

Unfortunately for him, losing David Crockett's diary was a huge setback for his investigation, but not everything was lost. Even if the Texians lived in San Antonio when the Alamo was built, the Comanche lived there long before them. This meant that the dungeon beneath the Alamo would most likely be related to the Comanche rather than the Texians.

Uriel figured what the Texians did was akin to the Mexicans building a fort on top of Chichén Itzá. Texans and Texians most likely found the landmark that signaled the entrance to the dungeon and built the mission of San Antonio de Valero on top of it.

While it was true he was making a lot of assumptions based on nothing but his previous experiences, the fact that he now knew his city was located in what used to be Texas gave him and edge. It may have seemed like a meaningless thing, but schools lowered their focus on humanities, social science and completely removed geography from their curriculum in hopes of speeding up education.

It was only thanks to his burning passion for archaeology that Uriel was able to find out geographical location of his own city, and that allowed him to know exactly where he needed to go now.

The river to the west had to be the Colorado river and to the northwest there should be a lake that used to be in Comanche territory. It was a bit of a longshot, but as an archaeology student Uriel knew how important were bodies of water to the people from past eras, if there was any clue left behind by the Comanche he might be able to find something.

There was one problem though, and it was how to get there. The Mapple corp had bought most of the tickets to the lost city and he didn't know if there was any POI to the northwest that would allow him to get near the lake and, even if there was such a place, he didn't know if it would be safe to go on his own or without a vehicle.

Still, he couldn't let Nika or Luna get involved in this matter as he didn't want to lie to them any more than it was strictly necessary. Besides, he knew how busy Luna was on her project and he was fairly certain that she wouldn't go with him anyways.

"Please, I'm doing my best but... all the tickets for the lost city are sold out!" The poor receptionist was overwhelmed by the hunters who complained to her, but in truth, it wasn't her fault. The Mapple corp. offered a generous donation to the agency for the rights over the lost city while they performed the investigation on the Alamo and it would most likely take months, if not years.

Although, even if they didn't donate a dime, the Mapple corp. was powerful enough to pressure the government to simply give up the rights for free.

"Miss, I know you're tired... you don't need to sell us the tickets. Just look the other way while we take a stroll around the lost city." A skinny man that looked like an ascended said with a sly grin on his face.

"No! I can't allow that! You all know the rules. Poaching another hunter's zone is illegal!" The receptionist pouted.

Most of the hunters that complained were either evolved or ascended and the reason they were so upset was because they were running out of options. The easiest POI on the west was, by far, the lost city.

It had plenty of buildings that could potentially be used for cover and, in spite of being a scavenging hot spot for years it was still very bountiful. As long as their teams contained only evolved or ascended hunters any incursion should be somewhat safe.

Most beginner hunters counted on the possibility of going there, but now that it was out of the table their only option was to either join a small corporation or the army.

Uriel watched the scene for a couple minutes trying to hide a satisfied smile after seeing the woman that had given him a hard time so troubled under the pressure of the malcontent hunters. But he couldn't afford to waste his time like that and headed towards another desk, one that didn't have a line.
