Chapter 189 The nosferatu
Chapter 189 The nosferatu
With the Alamo fort in sight Sam was able to confirm that there were vampires hiding inside it, though he couldn't tell their numbers. With this in mind, the group decided to retreat into a nearby building to give Luna the chance to treat her wounds.
There was a shallow but long injury on her abdomen and she was about to take off her clothes in front of everyone without showing a hint of embarrassment, but Medusa stopped her and took her to one of the rooms for privacy.
"I've studied a lot about vampires but I didn't think they were real." Luna said once she came back.
"Are you being serious? You believe the freaking loch Ness monster is real, but you thought vampires weren't?" Uriel was beyond flabbergasted.
"That's because vampires are... humans." She explained. "But after seeing them, I am sure, they're a vampire subspecies called nosferatu."
"That's great and all, but how do we kill them?"
"It's obvious! We gun them down or punch them, that usually works." Shaker laughed, but those who've seen them before weren't amused.
"Beheading, burning and a stake through the hear should work, garlic, crosses and silver shouldn't but who knows." Luna replied.
"We don't have any sharp weapons to behead them, burning them could potentially damage any clues about the dungeon and stakes have the disadvantage that we would need to get too close." Uriel muttered trying to find a solution.
"Not necessarily," Luna spoke annoyingly slow as usual. "Although most books claim that a wood stake to the heart should kill them, it is unclear if it is the wood, the wound to the heart or something impaling their hearts.

As soon as the hunters came out of their hideout, they were greeted by screams echoing from anywhere and everywhere. Gasping sounds, hisses and a myriad of unsettling noises in between growls and grunts.
"Did they come out of the fort?" Uriel asked Sam who was in charge of scouting the enemies.
"They're everywhere! We're surrounded."
"Nika!" Uriel shouted, but she refused to come out. Just the thought of being abandoned again by his 'shadow companion' made his blood boil, though the reason why Nika didn't come out was different. She was already outside.
"Over here!" She waved her arm in the distance and at her feet was the corpse of a vampire with a wooden stake through its heart. Contrary to what would usually happen, instead of vanishing the corpse began convulsing and twitching, then it dried and turned to ash. "It works!"
That was all the confirmation the young hunters needed and they stood their ground at the stampeding mob of strange human-like cryptids with nothing but their wooden stakes. From above, the scene looked like a river crashing against rocks but from their perspective, it looked like an impossible scenario.
The first one to fall was Janett and she was followed soon after by Luna who had trouble facing enemies much taller than herself but, in spite of her dire situation, Luna refused to activate her trait. Luckily for both of them, the rest of their team was close and the only one who got separated was Uriel.
Although he tried to remain close to his friends, Uriel lost sight of them as he was being swarmed by way too many enemies. All he could see was the pale visages of the unsightly creatures that resembled that of a person. He was hit, whipped and crawled at over and over but for some odd reason, he was smiling.
Uriel brandished two stakes at the same time with incredible precision, he didn't even need to activate his dash skill to dodge most of the attacks as his base speed stat allowed him to move much faster than his enemies.
Beast rank flux orbs fell to the ground in dozens and Uriel's greed stoked his fighting spirit causing him to fall into a frenzied state. Now instead of holding his ground and enduring, he was actively seeking for more enemies until both his stakes broke into pieces but by that time, there were barely any enemies left in their immediate surroundings.
"Did we just... win?" Medusa asked with a jagged breath, only to receive a slap in the back of her head by Sam.
"You had to jinx it, didn't you?" He said as a tall creature emerged from the Alamo, surrounded by even more nosferatu vampires.
