Chapter 305 Infamous Archaeologist
Chapter 305 Infamous Archaeologist
Now that everyone was safe and sound in the Pegasus, Uriel finally had some time to check his newly acquired exhibition. At the time, he didn't have enough flux energy to fight and he spent all of his money and most of his company's money to unlock the Pre diluvian exhibition which resulted in him being able of using the book of the dead. While he couldn't argue with the results, he deemed the ominous book too dangerous to leave it in the museum unattended now that he knew that Water warlock was somehow able to steal his artifacts. Because of that, he decided to take it out and put it somewhere safe inside the zeppelin but no matter how much he tried, he couldn't take it out from his trait like he did the day before.
Upon entering the museum, the first thing he noticed was the entrance to the new exhibition. It was grandiose and the door was too big to be meant for humans, but the greatest shock came when he realized it was a perfect copy of Water warlock's room inside the mystical realm.
"Hey, old man, are you there?" His words were lost in the vast chamber and no answer came. Feeling a bit safer, he looked around and found the artifact he was looking for on top of a marbled pillar that would have been too high for him if he wasn't in his 'ethereal' form.
[Book of the dead] A book made completely with human remains that contains the souls of those who die. Nothing is known about its origin. It was discovered by an infamous archaeologist, known for destroying the nameless bracelet and Thunderbolt Iron.
[Passive] Stores the souls of those killed by the bearer of the book.@@@@
[Passive] The souls stored inside the book are under the control of the bearer of the book.
[Active] It can safely transmigrate a soul from one vessel to another as long as the target is willing.
[Cursed] This book hosted a horror level cryptid for too long, all the souls contained in this book will be tainted unless it is cleansed.
Reading the book's description allowed him to make a few assumptions.
When he killed Shaker, his soul was stored inside the museum which meant the passive ability was working even though he didn't have the book with himself and it explained why the shadow was under his control. It also meant that Shaker's soul was now tainted, Uriel didn't know what it entailed but it didn't sound great or safe.
Uriel had to take a full minute to think of something to say.
For him, the fact that Luna was a hybrid changed nothing, even if she was a full cryptid she's still the same person who spoke to him when everybody else ignored him, the same that constantly annoyed him by asking for favors like breaking the curfew or giving her plushies, but speaking about feelings was difficult for someone so messed up as him.
Nevertheless, that didn't mean he didn't understand them rationally.
"I won't tell you what to do or how to feel about it, but..."
"No! It's not that! I'm completely fine with her being whatever she is! I mean, we can't go back to the city now and we are probably being chased after by hunters."
At that moment Uriel finally realized the consequences of the truth being revealed. He'll never be allowed back into the city which meant he would lose contact with all the people he knew. This would have been completely fine by him if not for the fact that it also meant that he was also dropping his studies and giving up on his dream of becoming a reputable archaeologist.
It was as though a bucket of icy cold water was poured on him and he became speechless.
"Uriel..." Medusa gulped down her saliva as she looked at the pale face of the most cold-livered person she ever met making a terrified expression.
All of his years studying, all of his sacrifices, his effort and all the pain he endured over the years crumbled into nothingness and nothing could bring him any comfort. Or so he thought, until a warm feeling on his cheek brought him back to life.
"It will be fine, we'll figure something out like always. Just... don't be too hard on Luna, she's having a hard time adjusting now that everyone knows her secret."
"I would never take it out on her. She's not to blame for what she is, she didn't choose to be a cryptid the same as I never chose to be raised by one. If anything, I think we should cut her some slack," Uriel's eyes then became cold again. "her sister, on the other hand... she has a lot of explaining to do."
