Chapter 325 Into the profane

Chapter 325 Into the profane

The massive golem rushed at them with a bash that would have left them as nothing but a splatter on the ground, but Many flew high at the same time Uriel activated his Dash skill and darted forward. With the help of the three moai that were swatting at the spirits, Uriel was able to break through them without any issues and he kept walking in a straight line as far as possible.

He looked backwards for a second and noticed how the moai made of red stone composed itself and then turned to follow, but its speed was no match for Uriel with his skill active. He kept going, without bothering to summon his revolver, in an attempt to outrun the evil spirits but they moved too fast and would eventually catch up to him.

From Uriel's distorted perception of time, he was able to see every move the evil spirits made and he knew how useless trying to outrun them by himself was so he summoned the jaguar figurine, but before he could throw it on the ground something picked him up and lifted him in the air at breackneck speed.

Although Uriel was under the effect of Dash, Manu had the speed boost of a sky dive and moved way faster than him.

"Why didn't you do this from the start?" Uriel asked.

"Because we would have been surrounded from all sides and we would have gotten lost, but it's fine now because we're close."

Contrary to Sam who always struggled to carry even a single person, except when he had Phlox's trait supporting him, Manu had no issues carrying Uriel at high speeds. He made it seem like it was easy, but Uriel guessed he had to be at least an ascended to support the strain on his wings.

Once they left the Aku Aku and the red golem behind, Manu dropped Uriel on the ground and landed right next to him to resume walking. Now, though, Uriel knew better than to make conversation with the hermit as it could draw the attention of the nearby creatures.

It wasn't until the moai fell to the ground that the true effect of the bullet was revealed. There was a huge hole blown up on its back, it was the effect of the displacement of the matter caused by the high caliber round of Uriel's revolver.

With the path free, he was able to continue his way, but after his previous encounter with the moai on the beach he was left without a light source and only then did he realize he was about to enter into yet another dark place.

Much to his relief, though, as soon as he crossed the stone paved threshold all the moai that had turned to look at him and even the Aku Aku lost all interest on him.

"Could this be? Is this sacred ground too?" Taking advantage of the absence of any cryptids in the immediate vicinity, Uriel summoned a flashlight which allowed him to see drawings on the walls along with some grafitti seemingly left behind by the locals.

There were depictions of birds, sea monsters, moai and even the birdmen, but as he ventured further inside the cave the drawins were noticeably older and also, way more unsettling. It was the story of the men and women who hid in the cave during the fight against the long eared people.

"So this is where Manu found out the true story about what happened," Uriel muttered after seeing the part of the mural where the hero appeared, stole the eggs and became the birdman that saved the short eared people. Only Many forgot to mention how gruesome it was.

The pictograph showed the birdman tearing people apart, killing women and even throwing children out of the cliff, all the while the long eared people cried and begged. "this isn't the story of a hero that saved his people, this is the story of a genocide taking place!

This place isn't sacred, this place is cursed!" Uriel's voice bounced off in the ominous walls that told the dark side of the history behind Rapa Nui.
