Chapter 94 : Looking for a safehouse
What Uriel needed more than anything right now was to keep everything he could a secret to remain safe until he made sense of things. He also needed to understand his new found power, if there was any to begin with.
The last thing he remembered before waking up at the hospital, was Water warlock stating he wasn't a worthy candidate to bear his blessing so he wasn't sure of what had actually happened. All he knew was that he was now able to regenerate.
There was also the need for a hideout, in case he needed to disappear for a while. Maybe Nika's suspicions were unfounded, but Uriel couldn't deny the possibility of being targeted by the Mapple corporation in the future if they found out the truth about what really happened in Chichén Itzá and that, not only did he use the dagger, but also kept the clay figurine for himself.
All of those things would only be possible if he had a place of his own.
With this in mind he asked Nika to hide inside his trait and, instead of heading to campus like he wanted to, he pulled out his phone and searched online for a cheap place that could fit his needs. There were many upscale apartments that looked really nice, but Uriel knew those were completely out of his budget for the time being, at least until he got paid by the Mapple corporation.
Left with no choice, Uriel headed towards a place he knew too well for his liking, the slums.
The slums was the place where all the second class citizens hurdled together, where even law was open to interpretation and only the strong survived. It wasn't, by all means, a nice place but Uriel was already familiar with it since he was raised near the wall.
Despite having enough credits to rent a place anywhere he wanted, he preferred to buy a place at a cheap location. Having a place of his own would allow him to invest in the place, do whatever he wanted in there and it also came with the side benefit of not leaving any paper trace, since the slums was the go-to place for criminal activities.
He wanted a place with an open space big enough to practice his shooting, work out and improve his aim. He also wanted to be closer to the gate than to college, mostly because he would still live in the dorms during school time but also because the place could function as a headquarters for hunting.
Although Uriel wasn't an optimistic person by nature, he liked to think far in the future. Even when he was a child, he always saw the big picture, which in turn drove him to pursue higher education instead of the path his Uncle had chosen for him.
Uriel could have asked Nika her opinion, but there were two reasons why he didn't do it. He asked her to remain inside his trait until he called for her and also, he didn't actually care for her opinion.
The place was absolutely perfect for him, it fulfilled all of his needs, possessed a historical background as one of the oldest steel factories in what used to be the state of Texas and the location couldn't be better as it was close to the main street that lead directly to the west gate.
Excited, he called the number on the site and half an hour later there was a woman outside the building.
"Hello? anybody here?" The woman called, prompting Uriel to head out.
Uriel gazed at her with curiosity as she was about his age, but she was already a corporate drone. It was evident by her attire, but also because of the bags under her eyes and her disheveled hair. Her appearance was that of a sleep deprived woman with bad eating habits and a harsh life.
She was relieved to see that the man who came outside didn't look dangerous. In her line of work she was exposed to all sorts of dangers as she would often find herself alone with men in abandoned buildings, but she was just a newbie at a real state company based on the slums which obviously meant she couldn't do anything about it.
"My name is Vivian and I'll be answering all your questions." She said getting ready to get hit on like usual. At least now it wasn't a dirty old man and she could endure some flirting with a client she found handsome.
"I want to buy this place... anonymously." Uriel said unblinking.
"Excuse me? Did you mean to say you want to rent the place?" Her hopes of renting a place like that to a young man like Uriel were low, but she would have never thought he would even have the means to buy it.
"No, I mean what I said. Though I would like to know the price first." He said awkwardly.
