Chapter 467 Void Tide: Aftermath and Decision
Chapter 467 Void Tide: Aftermath and Decision
--
It was rather fortunate for the camp to not experience that many casualties during the Void Tide.
Actually, if you ask the people who had been in this camp for ages, they'd say that this was probably the least harmful Void Tide they ever had. Aside from the weapons being overused and some buildings experiencing some strain, there aren't any other serious issues. Even the injuries sustained by those who bravely went into the Void Sea were very minimal.
Long story short, after the Void Tide, it's business as usual for the camp. It's like the event never happened at all.
To Cedric though, the Void Tide was a bit memorable. After all, it's during this event that he experienced an unexpected breakthrough in his vision, elevating it to a level that he had not thought achievable before.
Up until now, he's still adjusting to the changes this breakthrough dumped on him. It's all for the best, though, so you won't hear him complaining.
The lines, nodes, and weaves he saw with the new profound state of his vision turn out to be the workings of Concept Laws. Cedric was practically seeing those very threads that make up the creation itself, and it's endlessly fascinating.
He had taken time to completely immerse himself in it, observing how the threads, nodes, lines, and weaves interacted with each other. Combinations, repulsions, and partial and complete fusions resulted in elements that make up the very building blocks of everything that's known to all.
Somehow, Cedric feels as if he was cheating, or at the very least, it feels illegal to see these sights without a cost. But up until now, Cedric has yet to discover any real price for directly observing these sights aside from a little bit of mental strain.
Having a clear image of how things work made it easier for Cedric to understand Concept Laws even further. Controlling them to do his bidding became even simpler since he knew exactly what threads to pull and weave in order to produce his desired outcome.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Obviously, this not only raised his skills to a deeply profound level but also improved his mastery over the Cosmic Furnace Spell, which he needed to progress to the Transitional Realm.
He's still far from mastering it completely, but with his increasing familiarity with these new-found abilities of his, the time it takes for him to do so was shortened considerably.
Aside from immersing himself in his new abilities, Cedric has also gone back to work. He can't be too idle here in the camp, after all.
Orders for new equipment had been piling up, but that's something that he'd had to deal with later since forging masters like him were needed to perform maintenance and repairs to the pylon network before they go underground again.
This was done to minimize the work needed should another Void Tide occur soon. And since he's already experienced with this, it was a breeze for Cedric to do this. Which meant that it didn't take long before we got back to crafting tools that are needed by the camp.
Applying for the Void Patrol missions wasn't as simple as applying for other available missions around the camp. Of course, it wouldn't be as complicated if he was just a cadet, but even so, there is a decent amount of consideration needed before he was permitted to do so.
The interview just now was one of them. Though it hardly constitutes one in his opinion, there's not much he can do about it; after all, this place was severely lacking in manpower.
This procedure had become rather lax because the camp really needs to cover a lot of work and there aren't many people they can use.
That person earlier was right; Cedric came at a perfect time. The recent Void Tide caused the density of the void on the other side to be at its lowest for the next couple of months. If anybody wants to see what's on the other side of the Scarlet Division Wall, now might be the best time to do so since it's in its least threatening state.
It is true that Cedric was doing this to pave the way for his promotion. But there's also the fact that his curiosity was urging him to see what's on the other side of the wall.
After receiving the pass, Cedric wasted no time and immediately went to the patrol office to submit it so that he could join the preparatory phase. Because even though the density of the void outside has dropped after the tide, patrolling it doesn't automatically become easier nor very safe. One must still take time to prepare.
"Hi! How can I help you today?" The chreeful voice of the person at the reception area fluttered to his ears.
Cedric submitted his pass, and he was immediately conducted into the team. Of course he didn't join them right away, but he had already joined them officially.
According to the explanation he received, there will be at least a total of fifty people in this team. Some have applied way ahead of him, while others also had the same idea as him.
No matter though, these people will be the team he'd be in for patrolling the area just outside the Scarlet Division Wall. After seeing their profiles, Cedric ensured to memorize their faces and names as best as he could.
He was told that the prepatory phase will begin at the start of the next week, the earliest. By then, he should have his schedule cleared because this mission takes precedence over everything else.
Cedric understood the concept behind it and had no complaints. So, after returning to his room, he began packing everything he thought he might need.
First of all, supplies. He had to be smart about this. Inventories won't work outside the walls, and any storage bags run the risk of malfunctioning out there too. They also had size and weight limitations on their baggage, so even if he could theoretically bring enough supplies to feed an army and could confidently carry them around, he's not allowed to do so.
While he still has time on his hands, he thought that it'd be for the best to plan out his moves so that he won't panic later on. But of course, insights from those who had done this mission already were important too.
And so, his next plan was to do some queries. Fortunately, he managed to gather a solid social network during his time here.
