Chapter 280: Born From the Ashes (2)
The massive bird let out another cry before its huge body suddenly began to shrink. Flames wrapped tightly around it, spinning wildly until a human figure slowly emerged from within the fire.
Falcoln’s face instantly lost all color when he saw who it was.
Meanwhile, Roxanna could only stand there frozen in shock as Cyrus walked out of the dying flames completely unharmed. Beneath the burning sky, his crimson eyes glowed faintly, making him look both beautiful and terrifying at the same time.
"I know you drank my blood before." Cyrus’ voice was colder than usual, and the look in his eyes was so frightening that even the surrounding eagle beastmen instinctively stepped back. "My blood can heal wounds and make someone immune to poison."
He paused briefly before continuing, "But did you really think my blood would stop belonging to me just because it mixed with yours?"
Falcoln frowned in confusion, unable to fully understand what Cyrus meant. But before he could think any further, his entire body suddenly became unbearably hot.
"W-What’s happening?!" Falcoln cried out in horror. He could feel something burning inside him, spreading through his body like wildfire. It felt as though his organs were melting alive from the inside.
"What’s wrong?" Cyrus asked coldly. "Don’t you love fire so much? Why do you suddenly look so miserable now?"
Cyrus stared at Falcoln without blinking, and the eagle beastman felt his body burning even more under that gaze.
His blood became as hot as lava, destroying every organ inside his body. Moments later, the burning blood even tore through his skin, and the moment his blood dripped onto the ground, hot steam rose into the air.
"Leader! Leader, your body is burning!" one of the eagle beastmen shouted in panic.
Falcoln shot him an irritated glare because obviously, he already knew that.
He quickly turned back toward Cyrus, wanting to say something, but before any words could come out, his jaw suddenly fell apart after being burned away as well.
Roxanna, who witnessed the scene, frowned and looked at Falcoln in disgust.
Falcoln stumbled backward in panic, his breathing becoming heavier and heavier.
The flames inside his body continued spreading without mercy, slowly eating him alive from the inside out.
"L-Leader!" Several eagle beastmen rushed toward him, but the moment they touched his skin, they immediately cried out in pain and jumped back because his body was too hot to even touch.
"No... no..." Falcoln’s voice sounded broken and distorted after losing part of his jaw.
For the first time in years, real fear appeared in his eyes.
He had always believed himself untouchable because he knew poison could not kill him, his wounds healed almost instantly, even fire, the thing he loved most, had become nothing more than a weapon under his control.
But now, the fire was turning against him.
Cyrus slowly walked closer.
The burning feathers around him drifted through the air like glowing snow, and every step he took made the surrounding eagle beastmen instinctively retreat.
"You stole my blood," Cyrus said calmly. "So now my flames will reclaim it."
Falcoln’s pupils shook violently, and suddenly, flames burst out from inside his chest.
The eagle beastmen screamed in horror as Falcoln’s entire body became covered in blazing fire. He dropped onto the ground, rolling desperately while clawing at his own skin, trying to stop the burning.
But it was useless because nothing could put the flames out.
Roxanna watched silently as the man who had caused so much suffering slowly burned before her eyes.
She should have felt relieved. Satisfied, even. But strangely enough, all she could feel was exhaustion.
[Our settlement is gone,] Roxanna thought softly.
[Our home... everything we built together is gone.]
Her eyes slowly drifted toward Cyrus, who was still standing beneath the burning sky. [But at least...]
A wave of relief finally filled her chest despite all the destruction around her. [At least my Cyrus is still alive.]
"R-Retreat! We need to retreat now!" one of the eagle beastmen shouted in panic after seeing Falcoln burn until nothing but ashes remained.
The eagle beastmen quickly turned around and started running away from the Vixeria Settlement as fast as they could.
But before they could even escape the area, flames suddenly burst around them. The fire chased after their bodies like living creatures, instantly catching them one by one.
Screams immediately echoed across the battlefield.
"Where are you going?" Cyrus asked coldly. His crimson eyes calmly watched the eagle beastmen trying to escape.
"Aren’t you supposed to follow your leader wherever he goes?" he continued. "You killed people together, destroyed innocent people’s homes together, and enslaved others together... so why don’t you want to die together too?"
The eagle beastmen desperately tried to put out the flames burning across their bodies. Some rolled on the ground while others clawed at their own skin in panic, but no matter what they did, the fire refused to go out.
Their screams grew louder and louder, filling the entire battlefield with terror.
Some of the eagle beastmen tried to fly away despite the flames eating through their wings, but the moment they rose into the air, their burning bodies quickly lost balance and came crashing back down to the ground.
Others crawled desperately across the dirt, begging for help from their companions, but no one could save them because the fire spread too fast and worse... it almost looked alive.
The flames moved like hungry creatures, wrapping tightly around every eagle beastman who had participated in the attack.
Meanwhile, Cyrus simply stood there quietly.
His expression remained calm, but the coldness in his amber eyes made everyone around him feel a chill run down their spine despite the overwhelming heat, even the remaining Vixeria warriors instinctively kept their distance from him.
No, it wasn’t because they hated him, but because the power surrounding him now felt terrifyingly overwhelming.
Luan slowly lowered his weapon, still unable to fully process everything that had happened tonight.
First, Cyrus died before their eyes. Then he returned from the flames like a legendary beast from an ancient myth, and now, he was burning an entire army alive without even lifting a finger.
Azul, who still hadn’t truly left the settlement yet, swallowed hard. "Calen was right, we should be careful around him."
