Mumbles was trying to think, and it was hard, oh, it was so hard.

She hadn't always been like this. A long time ago, though how long she's not sure, she woke up on a beach spread out on the sand. It was probably the most relaxed she'd ever been. The sea surf softly lapped against her skin, eagerly drinking water to help bulk out her body. She felt like a small part of something gigantic, a little sandy woman there to make this corner of the beach a bit prettier. She'd let the birds in the sky rest on her banks, hold back the tides for the crabs, and maybe make some other Sandygast friends.

It was such a nice, simple plan. An idyllic life that she might have enjoyed quite a lot.

Then someone leaned over her to check she was okay, and Mumble's heart stopped. Mumbles looked into the big green eyes of her first human. She'd barely been alive for a few minutes and seen a pretty cloud-filled sky, beautiful white feathered birds, and the rolling ocean. None of that came close to the searing beauty of a freckly-faced brunette with braces and big green eyes. She wanted to yell that out, but she just couldn't. It was impossible. She knew the words, but her tongue wouldn't play along. She just-

She just mumbled.

As the woman checked on her, her hair brushed down onto Mumble's face, and it was so soft, so silky. The human smiled at Mumbles panicked babble, and Mumbles felt hotter by the second. Making a pretty lady smile was everything. Everything. She was happy, and it was because of her! Mumbles had only just met her, but here was the most beautiful woman in the world, grinning ear to ear because of her.

The woman left to fetch some help, and Mumbles had just lay there, staring at the sky, heart beating faster and faster. Mumbles couldn't think about anything else but how pretty women were. It didn't seem possible such beautiful things could exist! So when more had turned up, things had only worsened.

She was popular, but Mumbles had no idea why. They'd named her, and the ladies loved to come to her quiet bit of the beach and touch her. Tease her. Tell her secrets that burned her ears. All she could do was slowly melt under their happiness; she was glad they loved her, she really was, and every single one of them was the most beautiful thing she'd seen. Short and thick, tall and buff, it didn't matter; every single human was so gorgeous she could have screamed. But she couldn't even summon the breath to do that! Her brain would not work when pretty ladies were around, and as much as she wanted to tell them how much she adored them all. She couldn't. Not a single word.

But the ladies didn't mind her oddness one bit; they loved the way she stared at them with longing grey eyes and babbled nonsense. They adored how she blushed when they talked dirty or whispered sweet nothings in her ear. A few had even taken a tumble with her in the sands, and while Mumbles couldn't speak, she was more than happy to fuck them senseless. She was invincible on the beach with the sea at her back, and she could shape herself to satisfy any lady. She'd gotten a lot of practice.

She couldn't talk, but they all learned how much she loved them. They were all so beautiful, making Mumbles feel beautiful just being with them. She let them get everything out, a one-sided conversation that left them all feeling unburdened that someone would listen to it all. The tide would come in, and she'd carry them to the grass so they could sleep among the stars. Mumbles would then lay in the sand and let the sea wash over her, cleaning her face covered in lipstick kisses.

It was bliss, even if it was missing something important.

It was such a nice situation, such a perfect sandwich of rough-and-tumble muscle and tall, regal beauty, that Mumbles completely forgot the plan they'd gone over earlier. Which was a shame because that meant she wasn't ready for when the music cut out and someone called out over the room speakers.

"Ladies, are you ready for a show?"

There were some cheers, and then, from the stage that ran along one wall, a curtain twitched back, and a leg appeared. Covered in thick tights, the room went absolutely mad for a nice bit of thigh.

Oh no. Oh no, no, no. Mumbles had forgotten. How could she have forgotten? Any chance of speaking another word today was dead. She was about to be destroyed utterly.

"Oh yeah! The Trainers are ready," Nova clapped her hands and tugged Mumbles closer. "You ready for this?"

She was not. She could never be ready for what was about to come. Not in a million years.

"She looks stiff," Marina said, running her long fingers under Mumble's chin. "If it's too much for you, you can always sit in my lap. I can cover your eyes, and you can peek through my fingers.

Marina wasn't the Pokémon who'd beaten her after all. She was a Legendary. The greatest.

Mumbles climbed into Marina's lap with a shifting of sand and dared just a tiny peek through her fingers. She didn't want to miss what was about to happen. If they played it right, someone was about to evolve.

The way Mumbles's heart was beating a mile a minute, she wouldn't be that surprised if it was her.
