Chapter 397: Are You Good At Distractions?
The first Duke on Azmodeus's checklist was Duke Rowan, who was well-known for his close relations with the Assassins Guilds and other shady businesses.
'He's the most suspicious target,' Azmodeus thought. 'But I guess I will just have to check and see for myself.'
"Hey, Aflon," he said as he approached the huge castle gates in the dead of night.
"Yes, good sir?" Aflon replied while keeping his voice down.
Azmodeus's grin widened. "How good are you at distractions?" He asked.
"Uhmm... Sir," Aflon took a deep breath. "I thought you'd never ask! I am best at acting, creating distractions, or anything of the sort!"
He patted his chest with a proud look on his face.
Off to the side was his father. Who, at this very moment, was embarrassed to even be related to his idiot of a son.
'Maybe he's adopted,' he thought in exasperation. 'Actually, now that I think about it, I don't recall much of his life as a newborn.'
The Merchant narrowed his eyes in suspicion as the way he looked at his son changed a little.
Azmodeus, on the other hand, already knew exactly how he would slip past those menacing-looking Immortal King Realm guards keeping vigilant watch at and above the gates. An opportunity had presented itself to him, so of course he had to accept it with open arms.
He faked a sigh. "As much as I'd like to believe you, Aflon, I just don't know if what you say is an exaggeration or not," he said while shaking his head left and right. "If only there was a way for you to prove your metal."
"Prove my metal...?"
Aflon stopped flaunting for a second as he surveyed his surroundings. His eyes quickly brightened up. "How about I show you my skills by getting the attention of those guards, good sir!?"
The Merchant's eyes lit up in reverence. "The good sir's ingenuity truly knows no bounds!" He quietly exclaimed.
Azmodeus repeatedly nodded his head. "Yes, yes, now tell me: do you know where the Treasury is located?" He repeated.
The Merchant bobbed his head. "I just happened to have bought the schematics of many popular buildings over the last few years, and of what I obtained, there are the infrastructure schematics of every single Duke castle."
"Very well, then lead this young master to 'inspect' their wares," Azmodeus instructed. To which the Merchant complied with a joyful expression.
After a few minutes of sneaking through the highly guarded ancient topography of Duke Rowan's Castle, two large golden plaques appeared before Azmodeus and the merchant he carried around like a sack of potatoes.
"This is the Duke's Main Treasury, good sir!" The Merchant silently announced. "It is where Duke Rowan keeps the most precious of his possessions."
Azmodeus smiled in satisfaction. "I appreciate the assistance," he said to the Merchant as he approached the shiny doors. "Now, however, is time for inspection."
His avarice was fully emulated through his expression as he pulled out the Great Pandemonium Cleaver.
"It has been a while since I needed to use you two," he said as he affectionately stroked the razor-sharp edges of his massive blade. "After being kept in storage for so long, I think it's about time you taste blood once more."
The Great Pandemonium Cleaver vibrated in agreement.
Azmodeus patted the blade to soothe its growing excitement. "For now, though, I will require your help in cutting open these doors."
"!!!"
The Merchant was astonished by the sheer size of the blade the good sir had taken out. However, when he heard him speak of cutting open the doors, his expression morphed from astonishment to disbelief.
