Chapter 107 The Hibernators Awaken (1)

When the sun crested the horizon and bathed the Cave in what little warmth it could provide, considering the outside temperature, Aoni's eyelids twitched.

Still, seeing as he hadn't slept nearly enough after two back-to-back long nights, he merely rolled over and faced the wall, putting the light to his back.

Sure, the Lad knew he should probably get up; hell, even his grumbling stomach, having been abused for the last 30 or so hours, was screaming for nourishment; however, he had been in the middle of a pleasant dream, wherein he was flying through the air, shooting off lightning bolts, and playing hero to a damsel in distress.

Shit, he was finally getting to the good part, the hanky panky with the damsel, yet right as they were about to do the deed, a MASSIVE EXPLOSION OF LIGHT threatened to burn his eyes.

So he did what any reasonable teenager in his position would and rolled over.

Unfortunately, no matter how hard Aoni tried to drift back off and enter that dream a second time, it proved a fruitless endeavor, and as a result, with quite a bit of grouchy grumbles, he sat up and stretched.

"Tsk, how nice it would be to re-enter a dream, yet I've never been successful," looking out the Cave into the distance with a wistful expression, Aoni got up and started his morning routine.

Around two hours later, upon finishing his chores, he was back to work, stitching and sewing up a pair of hide pants. Unlike his shirt, which Aoni had stringent expectations for, the pants needed to be much tougher, and that being the case, were significantly more difficult to tailor.

Especially given the fact that they needed to be not only protective but functional, things such as pockets and padded knees were a must-have. In a sense, he was technically creating two different articles of clothing and stitching them into one.

The first layer was made of thicker hide, while the inner layer was soft yet durable material, much like his shirt, so don't get his end-goal confused with those tacky black-leather pants rockers or celebrities wear; no, these were the genuine real deal.

A versatile combination of not only comfort but utility...and no, I'm not talking about jeans.

Although unpleasant to look at because of his rough craftsmanship and looking more like a patchwork of different skins, they were functional....and had taken him over a week's worth of effort to make.

"I'm out here, Nyria; I wanted to be surprised by how much you've grown, so I stayed out of the room while you and Glacia slept."

'Okay...I'm coming out now...' Clearly nervous after hearing what Aoni had said, Nyria, whose voice seemed to still have a childish nature to it, entered the Lad's mind, causing him to smile warmly. Discover exclusive tales on My Virtual Library Empire

'Brother, hah, it looks like Glacia was babbling to her about what I said back then. That's fine. It's better to be an older brother than something like Papa; I'm only 16, for crying out loud. Anyway, it's good to know her intelligence has improved to the point of more fluid speech.'

Flap....Flap...tap tap...

With two soft flaps, the sound of talons scratching wood gave away the fact that Nyria had jumped off the bed and was planning on walking out on her own two feet instead of flying.

And then, after much anticipation, Nyria poked her head out of the bedroom cautiously, looking around for Aoni.

The moment their shared Emerald eyes met, the first thing Aoni noticed was relief, followed by excitement...followed by a flash of something blue hurtling at him at a speed nearly too quick for him to see properly.

FWAP

'BROTHER!' Of course, the blue blur was Nyria, who was now the size of a teenage bald eagle ( 2ft 7inchs in height, with a little over six-foot wingspan.)

Having expected a decent size increase in his fledgling, Aoni opened his arms and caught Nyria with relative ease as she turned into a purring engine while rubbing her head on his chest.

"Wowww, so beautiful," those were the first words out of the Lad's mouth as he hugged Nyria and began petting her muscular wings.

Pristine white feathers covered the top half of her body, white as fresh snow; meanwhile, her bottom half was a royal blue; that much hadn't changed a whole lot, but they definitely seemed more vibrant.

Further observations showed Aoni that her tail feathers were now nearly the same length as her entire body, and then there was Nyria's crest, which before only had a single long curled feather but now a collection of three long ones and two shorter ones.
