Chapter 537 537: Mission Complete
Chapter 537 537: Mission Complete
Caleb and his squad reconvened on a deserted hill, the safe haven they'd chosen for regrouping after the daring rescue. The night was quiet, the only sounds were the distant calls of nocturnal animals and the soft murmuring of the children they had just saved. The stars shone brightly above, providing a serene backdrop to the urgent discussion that unfolded.
"We've got the kids out, which is great," Markus began, looking around at his team and the quiet group of children. "But we can't forget the last part of the mission. We still need to deal with the members of Evil's Eye Call."
"Yeah, but first, can we just talk about George's performance back there?" Rolf interjected, a grin spreading across his face. "Man, you really had them eating out of the palm of your hand!"
Elina nodded, her expression a mix of amusement and admiration. "I have to admit, I was half convinced myself. You could be an actor, old man."
Tomas chimed in, laughing, "Seriously, I was about to start searching for a way to rescue you from yourself!"
Caleb, or George as he was known in these moments, waved off the compliments with a chuckle. "When it comes to acting, no one can compare to me," he declared, his eyes twinkling with a mix of pride and jest.
The mood shifted as Caleb turned serious. "But now, you all need to escort these children back to the guild. They're scared and need to be somewhere safe. As for the secret base of the Evil's Eye Call, leave that to me."
The squad exchanged doubtful glances, the idea of leaving such a dangerous task in the hands of an elderly man weighing heavily on them.
"George, are you sure?" Markus asked, concern evident in his voice. "That's not a small task, and they won't be as easy to fool."

Caleb nodded firmly. "I've got a few tricks left up my sleeve. Just get these kids safe. That's the priority."
...
Caleb made his way back to the adventurers' guild, where his squad had already gathered, eagerly awaiting his return. As he entered the bustling hall, the faces of his teammates lit up with a mix of relief and curiosity. He approached the guild desk, pulling out a photograph from his pocket. The photo showed the devastating aftermath of the explosion at the Evil's Eye Call base—a stark image of destruction that left no doubt about the mission's success.
He handed the photo to the staff member at the desk, who took it and stared in disbelief. "You did this?" the staff member asked, his voice laced with skepticism.
Caleb's squad crowded around, peering at the photograph with wide eyes. Markus, the leader, was the first to voice the doubt swirling within the group. "Caleb, how on earth did you manage to cause this much damage? This looks like the work of a Gold tier adventurer, not Silver."
"Yeah, that's beyond anything we expected," Elina added, her brow furrowed. "It's hard to believe that an old man, or any Silver tier adventurer, could achieve such massive destruction."
Caleb met their stares with a calm, unwavering gaze. "I used a bunch of explosives," he lied with a straight face. "Found them in their own armory. Just had to light the fuse and move out of the blast radius."
Rolf scratched his head, still visibly confused but unable to argue with Caleb's explanation. "Explosives, huh? That's... convenient."
Tomas, always the one to analyze, chimed in, "It's not just convenient, it's almost unbelievable. But then, how else do you explain that?" He gestured towards the photo, indicating the utter obliteration captured in the image.
The guild staff, still holding the photo, nodded slowly, albeit with a hint of reluctance. "Well, if you say so. We'll have to verify this, of course, but if what's in the photo is true, then it looks like the mission is complete."
The squad members exchanged glances, their expressions a mixture of admiration for Caleb's bravery and lingering skepticism about the plausibility of his story. No one could refute his claim with certainty, given the evidence in front of them, yet the details didn't quite add up.
As the staff at the guild desk began to process the completion of their mission, the squad gathered around Caleb, their conversation low and speculative. They couldn't deny the results, but the mystery of how their unassuming, elderly teammate achieved such a feat would linger in their minds.
