Chapter 595 - 556: Neither Human nor Demon
Chapter 595 - 556: Neither Human nor Demon
After Zhao Rong used his blade, which could slice through iron as if it were mud, to sever all of the Tree Spirit Granny’s roots, he immediately rushed toward her trunk.
When the Tree Spirit Granny saw Zhao Rong charging at her with the blade, she instantly reverted to her bald man form and fled toward a nearby exit.
Watching the Bald Man flee, Zhao Rong didn’t give chase. Instead, he sneered, pulled a net from his pocket, and flung it at him, calling out, "The net of justice is vast, and it lets nothing slip through. Thinking of escaping, Baldy? It’s not that easy."
The Bald Man reached the emergency exit. As he pushed the door open, he glanced back and taunted Zhao Rong’s group, "Catching me isn’t as easy as you think!" He was still snickering to himself when a huge net dropped from the sky, enveloping him completely and pinning him in place. Zhao Rong and his group rushed over and surrounded the trapped man.
The assistant picked up a bottle of soda from nearby, opened it, and poured it over the Bald Man’s head. "Baldy, you old Tree Spirit Granny!" he mocked, "Don’t think you can just run away after all the evil you’ve done. Our Brother Zhao Rong won’t let you escape so easily."
Xuelian stepped forward and kicked the Bald Man a couple of times. "I’m warning you, Baldy, don’t try any more tricks or even think about escaping," she said, "because no villain can escape Brother Zhao Rong’s clutches!"
Yu Lan strode forward, lifted the net, and grabbed the Bald Man by his collar. She slapped him twice across the face. "You tree spirit! How dare you come to human society and cause such harm! Just wait until Brother Zhao Rong chops you to bits with this iron-slicing blade!"
Xuelian added a warning, "If you lead us to your bosses, Zhou Xiaoer and Hong Ju, we might spare your life. Otherwise, Brother Zhao Rong will definitely finish you off right here and now."
Hearing their words, the Bald Man immediately began to beg for mercy. "My good sirs, my beautiful ladies, please have mercy!" he pleaded, "I’m really human! I was under the control of Hong Ju and Zhou Xiaoer. I only gained this transformation ability after they forced me to drink a poison they gave me."
Hearing this, the assistant was skeptical. "What proof do you have that you’re a human and not the Tree Spirit Granny?"
At this, the Bald Man pulled a stack of photos from his pocket and showed them to the group. "Sirs, ladies, I have a family! I just went astray and fell in with those villains, Hong Ju and Zhou Xiaoer. That’s how they got control of me and transformed me into the Tree Spirit Granny."
Seeing the photos, the assistant took a device out of his pocket—the Transgender Identifier—and began to scan him.
When Zhao Rong and the three women saw the assistant possessed such a Divine Artifact, they laughed, "Assistant, we never thought you’d have something like this! It’s amazing!"
Lili sized up the assistant. "I bet you have a very specific reason for owning this," she speculated.
Yu Lan smirked. "You must have gone to Thailand, brought a beauty back to your hotel... but when you got to the room and the clothes came off, you discovered she had a little something extra. That’s why you bought this Transgender Identifier, isn’t it?"
Xuelian laughed. "Is there any doubt? For a lecher like our assistant, if he hadn’t gotten himself into that situation and been fooled by a transgender woman, he’d never have spent so much money on this Divine Artifact."
Hearing the women’s words, the assistant lowered his head in embarrassment. "I really didn’t want to tell you why I bought this Transgender Identifier..." he said shyly, "but since you guessed right, I might as well admit it."
With that, he used the Transgender Identifier to scan the Bald Man. He hadn’t been prepared for the result. One scan, and he jumped back in shock. The being in front of them was neither human nor monster, but some kind of special creature. The assistant retreated another step, his voice filled with terror, "Brother Zhao Rong, this guy isn’t human, and he isn’t a monster... What species is he?"
When the three women heard that the Tree Spirit Granny wasn’t human, a monster, or even a species from Earth, they were utterly dumbfounded.
"Could he be a ghost?" Lili asked in terror.
"I think he’s just a beast," Yu Lan deliberately teased.
Xuelian, however, readied herself for a fight. "I think a huge battle is about to erupt."
While everyone was still speculating, Zhao Rong suddenly stepped forward. He laughed heartily, pointed at the so-called Tree Spirit Granny, and boomed, "Zhou Xiaoer, stop the act! Show us your true form!"
When the assistant and the three women heard that the Tree Spirit Granny was actually Zhou Xiaoer, they were completely bewildered. "Brother Zhao Rong," they asked, "isn’t this Bald Man the Tree Spirit Granny? Why are you saying he’s Zhou Xiaoer?"
Zhao Rong laughed and explained to his perplexed companions, "There’s something you don’t know. Throughout our journey, after clearing so many hurdles and defeating so many foes, every final boss we faced... has been Zhou Xiaoer."
The assistant and the three women were even more dumbfounded. "Brother Zhao," the assistant asked, still not understanding, "what do you mean by that? Does Zhou Xiaoer have a dozen, or maybe even twenty lives? So every time we kill someone, his soul just flies away and possesses the next person in the next stage to keep fighting us? Is that it?"
"Actually, every enemy we’ve encountered was one of the living dead," Zhao Rong explained. "Zhou Xiaoer simply attached his soul to each of them to fight us along the way."
Hearing this, Lili found it incredible. "Brother Zhao Rong, what do you mean? Is Zhou Xiaoer a disembodied soul, just drifting around endlessly? So whenever he finds a host, he possesses them and pretends to be that person to do evil? Is that it?"
Zhao Rong nodded. "Lili, you’re right. Zhou Xiaoer isn’t just a soul; he’s a soul that can replicate DNA. That’s why every enemy we’ve seen carries a part of Zhou Xiaoer’s DNA, as well as his possessing soul."
