Chapter 1225 - 1214: Never Swallowing One’s Pride
After ending his contact with Ye Qiu, Yi Chen couldn’t wait to run the program that Ye Qiu had written, and then he realized, why is the distance between people so vast?
He had been praised by many in the same field, but with this particular issue, no matter how he wrote it, there were always bugs. However, God was different.
He not only didn’t find a single issue, but his commands were concise, the operation smoother. At that moment, Yi Chen realized he still had a lot to learn.
"Boss, the biggest problem is solved, so can we submit our work now?" Huang Mao asked excitedly, indicating that anyone who had worked overtime for two months would have a similar attitude.
"Let me go over it one more time, you guys can go back and rest!" Yi Chen waved his hand casually, reluctant to take his eyes off the screen.
Huang Mao mumbled, "If God could come to our studio, then I wouldn’t have to work overtime anymore."
Yi Chen sneered, "Then you might as well be looking at unemployment right away."
"Boss, I was just saying. Besides, how could someone like God be restricted by work hours? If it weren’t for needing money lately, we probably couldn’t have contacted him. Boss, have you found more work for God yet? Maybe it’s good to introduce some lucrative gigs, so it’ll be easier to talk with him in the future."
"Don’t worry, I’ve got it under control."
After receiving a generous reward, Ye Qiu went straight to the mall for a shopping spree. She’s never been one to wrong herself, spend when she has money, and earn when she doesn’t. Even though she moved to a new house with everything, she wanted to replace curtains, sheets, carpets, etc.
And there’s clothes, shoes, and everything else; she bought two sets a few days ago, threw away the rest, and even needed to replace her computer, phone, etc.
"Oh, isn’t this Ye Qiu? There’s nothing to pick up here. Can your salary afford things from here?" Two fashionably dressed women walked towards her; it was really a small world. They were Ye Qiu’s two roommates, Xie Lizzi and Gu Xiaotong, who were always targeting her. Gu Xiaotong spoke, while Xie Lizzi looked at her arrogantly.
"Oh, so you guys came to this mall to scavenge?" Ye Qiu looked at them expressionlessly.
Gu Xiaotong stared, shrieking, "I was talking about you."
"I’m a top student favored by professors from a prestigious university. Why would I go scavenging? No normal person would think that, unless you’re judging others by your standards." Ye Qiu responded without hesitation.
"Just a few days, and you’ve grown guts. If you’re not here to scavenge, then you’re here to work part-time, right? Which store is it? Based on our classmate relationship, I should at least support your business." Gu Xiaotong reined in a bit when noticing people looking at them, continuing to mock.
If it were the previous Ye Qiu, she might have been here part-time, perfectly set up by these two, because it wasn’t the first time. Customers are king, Xie Lizzi had money, and stores wouldn’t offend a big customer for a part-time student, so they always succeeded.
But the Ye Qiu here today had a different mindset; she wasn’t working part-time and wasn’t afraid of their mischief.
"Miss Ye, excuse me, the address you left was accidentally wet by a staff member. Is it Building Three, Room 302?" The manager of a store she just visited hurriedly ran over to say as Ye Qiu was about to retort to Gu Xiaotong.
"Yes, that’s the correct address, thank you."
"We will deliver it to you as soon as possible. Sorry for the inconvenience." The manager kept apologizing.
"It’s fine."
While they talked, Xie Lizzi and Gu Xiaotong squinted their eyes. They knew this store manager because Xie Lizzi frequented the store. Though not an internationally famous luxury brand, its materials were exquisite, its design unique, and so the prices were high. Even Gu Xiaotong had to scrimp to buy a couple of items. Yet Ye Qiu actually spent here?
They exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with disbelief. They knew Ye Qiu’s background. Where did she get the money to shop here? And to have the manager so deferential, she must have bought a lot. How is that possible?
"How much did she buy?" Xie Lizzi directly questioned.
The manager looked at her in surprise, clearly recognizing her, then awkwardly glanced at Ye Qiu and smiled, "Sorry, Lady Xie, this is a customer’s privacy, we cannot disclose it."
Xie Lizzi immediately sneered, "Pretending to be a big spender in front of me? Your boss sent you here to buy stuff, huh? You get a job and suddenly have confidence. Buying something for someone else and pretending to be rich in front of me?"
Ye Qiu looked at her and suddenly snorted with laughter, her eyes filled with disdain, not even bothering to speak.
Her demeanor made Xie Lizzi even angrier, wondering why Ye Qiu dared look at her like that? What gave her such confidence? A single word from her could ruin Ye Qiu’s life. It seemed she wouldn’t shed a tear until she saw King Yan.
Xie Lizzi’s face darkened, "If you apologize now and swear to avoid me in the future, I won’t go to your boss, and I might even talk to him about promoting you."
Then Ye Qiu laughed even louder, "Xie Lizzi, for the first time, I wonder how your skin got so thick!"
"What did you just say?" Seeing Ye Qiu’s comeback, Gu Xiaotong, the primary lackey, couldn’t hold back, pointing at her angrily.
"I said Xie Lizzi has a big face, is there a problem?" Ye Qiu sneered at the two of them.
"Do you know what you’re saying? Do you know how wealthy and powerful Lizi’s family is? The Xie Group can make it impossible for you to survive in this city with just a word," Gu Xiaotong threatened, borrowing the authority of others.
"Oh dear, I’m so scared. I wasn’t aware that the Xie Group had a monopoly in our city A!" Ye Qiu’s tone was indeed exaggerated, but Gu Xiaotong’s earlier tone had been even more arrogant, so by now, quite a few people had stopped to watch them.
From any perspective, it seemed like Xie Lizzi and Gu Xiaotong were bullying Ye Qiu by flaunting their family backgrounds, and instantaneously, the looks from onlookers turned unfriendly. Ordinary people constituted the majority everywhere, and injustice was prevalent, with rights and opportunities often snatched by those with power.
Even if it wasn’t their turn to be exploited, who could say it wouldn’t happen one day? While everyone put in equal effort, some of those with power didn’t even work hard. Why should they so easily obtain everything?
You could call it envy of the rich, or a revulsion for societal injustice, but you couldn’t deny that unfair situations really did exist constantly. While wealthy individuals contributing to society and being humble is one thing, someone publicly threatening others like Xie Lizzi was truly unlikeable.
