Chapter 282 - 282: Curious Minds
Craaaack!!
It was still morning when Giggs and I began heading for where we suspected Grace was being kept, but by this time, the sun was already high in the sky.
The bustle of the day had just begun, and the sky was bright until suddenly, it wasn't.
What came first was thunder, a sound cracking through the heavens and sending a chill through everyone in Detroit. But there was one problem.
Where is the lightning?
Several more thunderous cracks echoed through the bright, sunny sky, but still no lightning flashed. As more and more people began noticing this oddity, thick, dark clouds started gathering, filling the sky with abnormal speed.
"The weather is rather strange," Giggs said from the front seat, slowing the car like the other drivers around us.
"It seems a storm is coming. Should we find shelter?"
"No. Keep going."
Leaning against the door, I looked out the window and into the sky. Though there was a bit of doubt, I was mostly sure that the phenomenon occurring above was closely connected to me.
More than three minutes passed with clouds steadily gathering. The sky looked like it was harbouring a monster ready to fall and crush the city. The ominous feeling was strengthened by the darkness that had swallowed the light.
"Giggs, help me look up. I feel like the clouds are slowly descending."
Making sure he wasn't going to crash into anyone, Giggs spared the sky a glance for a few seconds before answering.
"I think you're right, Sir."
Craaack!!
Craaaack!!
Without warning, lightning began flashing within the clouds, erupting violently. Rain started falling, the pellets striking with so much force that each drop looked like it would leave a numbing sting on the skin.
A strong wind suddenly began blowing, and on the streets, several people could be seen struggling to keep their footing.
"Sir, at least let us stop for a while. The roads will soon become dangerous."
"Okay."
While Giggs
I tried to track it, but it stretched far beyond my range.
Focusing back on the sky after its departure, I hoped whatever process was going on would be hastily finished. I didn't want to witness another disturbing scene.
Thankfully, my prayer was answered.
At some point, the blue flashes in the clouds became too intense. Their light broke through the darkness and shone down on the world. Sadly, I found that Echo could no longer peer into them.
This phenomenon lasted for about a minute. Then, silence returned to the skies.
The rain, which had been falling with force, slowed and died. The clouds scattered apart.
"Sir, this isn't normal, is it?" Giggs looked back at me, having joined me earlier in watching the sky.
"No, it isn't."
It didn't take long for the first sunrays to break through, and the calamitous winds to settle.
The street was a mess, loose items had been thrown everywhere. I closed my eyes in meditation for several seconds, then instructed Giggs:
"Let's go."
My nonchalance about what had just happened made Giggs frown. I could tell he suspected I had something to do with it, but he said nothing.
"System, open shop."
At my command, the blue screen appeared. I scrolled through a catalogue of items.
