Hugo lay on the gym floor, his brain still short circuiting from Lily's unexpected confession.
'Wait... Lily? A virgin?'
That didn't compute. Not one bit. She was too gorgeous, too curvy, too confident.
That gym-toned body? That majestic, bouncy gym butt? That ridiculously tight volleyball outfit? And yet, not a single guy had—?!

Lily nodded with a small smile, totally unbothered. "Yup."
Hugo's brain did a complete system reset.
'How?! No, seriously, how?! A girl like her should have been stolen away by some prince charming ages ago! Or at least some rich guy with a yacht and a six-pack! But nope. Instead, here she is, sitting next to me, still pure, still untouched, still...'
He shook his head in disbelief. "Damn, Lily. I knew you were dedicated to volleyball, but I didn't think it was this serious."@@@@
He could already guess the major reason for her still being a virgin up till now. Volleyball tool up most of her life.
Unless she found a very 'understanding' guy like himself or a one night stand, the chances of it happening were quite slim.
Lily chuckled. "Yeah... ever since high school, I've been focused on nothing but training and competitions. Always trying to surpass myself and improve everyday. Never really met anyone that was patient enough and I could trust..."
Then, she turned her soft gaze toward him. "...Until I met you."
Hugo's heart skipped a beat. The raw amount of love in her gaze towards him was quite shocking.
Hugo sincerely didn't know what he did to deserve such a staggering amount of affection from anyone.

This was new. Sure, girls had complimented him before. Flirted. Teased. Jumped on him like a pack of hungry wolves. But this? This was real. Genuine.

He swallowed. To be honest. He really admired her.

For a split second, Hugo almost got too emotional. But then his brain kicked back into default mode.
Hugo's entire soul collapsed.

That little gremlin. That little troll. Even with company, he still somehow managed to ruin Hugo's chances!
'I swear, this boy is my natural enemy. My lifelong rival. My destiny's final boss!'
Hugo sighed dramatically, already plotting his revenge.
'Fine. If I can't touch Lily tonight... I'll just have to settle the score.'
He had decided. The moment he got back to his dorm, he was calling Dirtydew.
"Take the boy down. I don't care how. Just do it."
But outwardly, Hugo simply smiled and said, "Alright, I'll take you home."
Lily's relieved expression quickly softened, and before he could react, she wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug.
Then, in a voice so soft it barely reached his ears, she whispered, "I love you."
Hugo froze.
His heart clenched.
Not because he didn't care. Not because he wasn't happy.
But because—just like the first time she had said it... he still couldn't say it back.
So instead, he cupped her face, tilted her chin up, and kissed her again.
"Mmmm—"
Softly. Slowly. Gently.
Maybe he couldn't say the words.
But at least, this way... he could show her.
