Chapter 1049: You and I
“You’ll main. I’ll support,” Gao Yang instructed concisely.
“Right.” Qing Ling understood him.
As they talked, Qilin had been observing them and pondering, looking pensive.
Then Qing Ling moved. She rushed to Qilin while Gao Yang and his double flanked him, pressuring him and covering Qing Ling.
Gao Yang’s strategy was based on one presumption: time was on his side.
First, most of Qilin’s Talents came from his corpse puppets. There was a limited use time for each puppet, and he would sooner or later run out.
And Qing Ling had Limitless Evolution. Fighting Qilin head-on, she would become stronger and stronger as long as she stayed alive. If she was lucky, perhaps she could get Limitless Evolution to level 5 or even level 6.
Qing Ling’s only concern was a close-range psychic attack from Qilin.
Gao Yang didn’t fear that, though. He could rescue Qing Ling to make sure she didn’t get instantly wiped.
Moreover, Limitless Evolution came with a passive resistance to Talents. Qing Ling could develop immunity from brief exposure to Eidos with a few repeats. Once Eidos lost effect on both Gao Yang and Qing Ling, Qilin would be at an even greater disadvantage.
Qilin knew all that. Thus, he wouldn’t recklessly use Psychic Shackles, Brain Formatting, or other similar moves on Qing Ling without the confidence that he could take her out.
That, however, made it difficult for Qilin to kill Qing Ling with one hit. And with Gao Yang acting as a safety net, Qing Ling would be able to fight to her heart’s content without reservation.
Of course, Gao Yang didn’t think Qing Ling would just kill Qilin on her own—she had only just acquired Limitless Evolution. It would take a lot more experience for her to reach Azure Dragon’s level.
Gao Yang only needed a chance.
Qing Ling moved incredibly fast, leaving a trail of afterimages. She sped up mid-charge and stomped on the ground to launch herself like a missile, the two blades crackling with an indigo blade aura, drawing two lines in the air as she lunged at Qilin.
Shadow shot out of Qilin’s back to form two skeletal wings, shielding him from Qing Ling’s slashes. The powerful blade aura rippled and sliced Qilin’s necktie, but didn’t effectively damage Qilin—the stats bonuses from the puppets’ Talents alone pushed Qilin’s defense to incredible height.
Qilin’s eyes twitched, realizing that the slashes were only a feint. A dozen Black Gold weapons quietly hovered above him, each imbued with ample lightning.
Lightning bolts as thick as a thigh struck down from the blades, diving into the two blades Qing Ling wielded.
At the same time, several ice spears rose from beneath his feet, stabbing at her.
Whoosh. Gao Yang teleported behind Qilin, his right fist radiating a blinding red. He made a Fire Punch at Qilin’s back.
To restrain Qing Ling, Qilin had stopped using his other Talents and put most of his energy into Telekinesis. He endured Gao Yang’s punch with his physical defense alone, but barely.
He didn’t have the time to convert Talents in this split second; he opted for the safest option and quickly used Unreachable at the cost of deactivating all his other Talents.
Telekinesis loosened, and the ice spears stabbing at Qing Ling stopped.
Qilin had turned a spectral green. He could almost see Gao Yang pulling his punch back to teleport Qing Ling away. It was okay. Qilin had been discreetly spreading Patient’s slow-acting virus as he fought Qing Ling. Time might not be on their—
What?!
Qilin realized with a start that strange energy was quickly gathering around Gao Yang.
...Wave of Serenity!
Gao Yang scoffed. This time, I’m ahead of you!
If Gao Yang had said that he would main while Qing Ling played support, Qilin would know that she was trying to buy time.
Thus, he did the opposite. He told Qing Ling that she would be the main attacker while he supported her, but the truth was the opposite.
Qilin had been looking for a chance to kill Qing Ling with one decisive move, and Gao Yang had been looking for such a chance to kill Qilin.
Now, it seemed that he had made the right gamble.
While Gao Yang teleported to Qilin’s back to sneak up on him, his double had used Wave of Serenity.
Although Gao Yang had used it once a little while ago, he had created this real double before that; thus, his double could still use the skill, only at 30% effectiveness, but good enough.
In an instant, the energy of Wave of Serenity rippled through Gao Yang. Fire Punch went out, but the energy also silenced Qilin and disrupted Unreachable.
Gao Yang’s fist, with great inertia carrying him, collided with Qilin’s back.
