Chapter 2268 - 2243: Reinforcements
Manbao had yet to respond when she saw someone swing a blade to repel Assistant General Nie, handing him over to someone beside him, while the person led three others rushing towards them.
No response was needed now, Dayu and his brothers immediately engaged, their blades clashing in the air. Dayu nearly fell off his horse, but fortunately, a brother beside him swung his blade to force the opponent back...
With just a glance, Master Jiechen, lying on the window, said, "They cannot defeat him, Master, let me go."
Master Zhi Ren frowned, "Your wound has just healed."
Jiechen grinned, "It can heal again if it splits open. This person is a major threat; if he breaches, the caravan might be lost."
Master Zhi Ren said no more.
Jiechen’s back wound had healed, though not completely, yet better than his leg. He got off the carriage on one leg and asked the nearby guards for a horse, directly mounting it.
The guards seemed aware of his prowess and even offered him their blade.
Jiechen refused, instead taking his long staff.
Jin Kui’an gazed at Zhou Man from afar, returning her intense stare with a grin, then glanced at Bai Shan with a challenging smile before swinging his blade to cut down the men blocking his path, rushing towards them.
Jiechen maneuvered from behind, overtaking Zhou Man and the others, directly confronting him...
Startled, Manbao and the others called out, "Master Jiechen—"
Jiechen looked back at them, smiled, then continued ahead. Jin Kui’an frowned, glanced at his bald head, showing mercy as he was a monk, and swung his blade to try and topple his horse.
But Jiechen gently blocked it with his staff...
Jin Kui’an’s hand trembled, seeing his blade deflected by what seemed to be a light block, he was taken aback, becoming more cautious towards Jiechen.
Jiechen chanted a Buddhist scripture, sighing, "Why press so hard, benefactor? This is not a merchant caravan; there is no surplus wealth. If you are merely after riches, I could persuade the master to leave a certain sum."
Jin Kui’an sneered, "Enough chatter, monk. If you don’t step aside, I’ll cut you down too."
Jiechen sighed again, his staff slightly lifted, blocking his way.
Jin Kui’an understood and swung his blade towards Jiechen’s head, the two instantly clashed.
Daiyu led seven or eight people who couldn’t stop him, yet Jiechen alone held him at bay.
Entangled by Jin Kui’an’s horsemen, Daiyu looked back, angrily wishing to spit blood as he couldn’t compare to an injured monk.
The last group of horsemen charged down, some breaking through the first and second lines towards the caravan, with remaining soldiers and guards looking at Zhou Man and Bai Shan, leaving several to protect the caravan and supplies, while others advanced...
Though talented, Jiechen’s back was injured. After tens of moves, he began to falter. As Jin Kui’an pulled his horse to halt, an arrow shot towards his face; he leaned aside to dodge, while blocking Jiechen’s staff, then looked over facing Zhou Man who had just lowered her bow.
He smiled at her, his attacks on Jiechen became fiercer.
Manbao readied an arrow, waiting for him to reveal himself before shooting at him. Jin Kui’an chopped the arrows down, growing irritated after two or three attempts, swung his blade to force Jiechen aside to charge at Zhou Man, but as soon as his figure appeared, she saw several arrows shoot from Zhou Man’s direction, launched by her and her friends.
He sneered, calmly breaking these arrows, when one flew from the side, striking his horse in the neck.
The horse whinnied loudly and fell, causing Jin Kui’an to tumble from his mount. He rolled sideways onto the sandy ground, eager to leap up knowing dismount is dangerous in battle, especially facing cavalry.
Bai Shan calmly laid down his bow, pulling another arrow from the quiver, locking onto Jin Kui’an along with Manbao, shooting at him from different angles...
Jin Kui’an dodged the arrows clumsily, barely recovered before a staff skillfully tapped the back of his neck. Feeling sudden pain and dizziness, before he could react, the staff repeatedly struck his neck, and his eyes rolled as he collapsed...
As he fell, a resounding cheer echoed from the hill, startling everyone who instinctively looked up, seeing a troop of cavalry appearing from where the horsemen charged down.
With blood across his face, Assistant General Nie gazed over full of fury, assuming another band of horsemen appeared, was about to urge Zhou Man and others to run, but then saw a flag slowly climbing the dune, a large fluttering Great Jin flag appeared atop, another embroidered with a large "Meng" character.
Soldiers had already shouted, "It’s the Shazhou Army, Sir, reinforcements from Yumen Pass! The Meng Clan Army is here!"
Assistant General Nie paused momentarily, then roared, "Brothers, let’s finish off these bastards, charge—"
"Charge—"
Junior General Meng also waved his long blade downward from the hill, shouting, "Men, charge—"
Leading his troops to charge down onto them.
Manbao paused, then said to Bai Shan who returned, "Let’s set up the medical tent."
It seems fleeing is unnecessary; they can stay to treat the wounded.
Bai Shan replied, calling over those guarding the carriage to carry down several boxes and start setting up the medical tent, while others went forward to drag the injured soldiers back for treatment.
Mr. Zhuang also supported his old arms and legs to help, rolling up his sleeves to start a fire to boil water. Soldiers were already bringing back the wounded from the battlefield...
With the addition of the Meng Clan Army, progress accelerated significantly as the two sides combined to capture all horsemen, none escaped.
The injured soldiers and guards didn’t need to be carried, those who could walk came directly for bandaging to stop the bleeding, while those who couldn’t were carried by other soldiers and guards.
Manbao and the others got busy, Bai Shan and Bai Erlang gained experience, assisting with treating light injuries, cleaning wounds before applying medicine, those needing suturing were directed to Manbao and Zhou Liru.
The two mostly handled suturing and stopping bleeding. After watching a while, Master Zhi Ren even asked Manbao for a set of needles and thread, surprisingly able to suture.
Although not aesthetically pleasing, the texture was correct.
Indeed, having medical knowledge leads to multifaceted understanding.
Junior General Meng was not unfamiliar with such scenes, as army medics often saved people this way, didn’t pay much mind before finding Assistant General Nie, but Duyuan covered his wound sitting aside and watched in disbelief as this group of former bandits turned guards witnessed the treatment process for the first time.
