Chapter 829 - Victory
Chapter 829 - Victory
Commerce stared at the Butcher and warned, “This isn’t your playground. Leave.”
In reality, his hand was trembling behind his back. He knew exactly what he could and couldn’t do. He also knew that all his assets were tied to the Wisdom Faction. If it fell, the debt alone would bury him for the rest of his life. Thus, even at the cost of his own life, Commerce had to stand his ground before the Butcher.
The latter was actually intimidated by him. Many people in the Divine Civilization could suppress the Butcher, but only a handful could destroy his Divine Authority with a single blow.
Although the Butcher had never paid close attention to Commerce’s information, he knew enough about him. Most of the intelligence focused on Commerce’s business achievements. Nothing about his combat ability had ever come up. Encountering this level of strength from him today genuinely caught the Butcher off guard.
Still, something about it felt wrong to his instincts. Even so, Xu Hai was right there in front of him. Killing Xu Hai meant winning the divine war, and the Butcher refused to let that chance slip away.
The Butcher took one step forward. Commerce kept his expression calm, but his stomach churned.
The Butcher took another step, and cold sweat soaked Commerce’s back. He was silently praying for Han Wu to return.
The Butcher stepped forward again, returning to the position where he had stood before being blasted backward. Cracks were beginning to show in Commerce’s carefully maintained composure. At that moment, he prayed that the Butcher wouldn’t take another step.
The Butcher raised his fist to test Commerce’s strength with an attack. The latter had already started silently drafting his last will. He wanted to run, but his legs had given out. Even if they hadn’t, he couldn’t outrun the Butcher’s fist.
The Butcher attacked. Before the fist connected with Commerce’s head, a barrier appeared in front of him. The Butcher’s powerful blow slammed into it, and ripples spread across its surface.
It was Xu Hai. At the very last second, using his Wisdom Jurisdiction and the energy he had recovered, he had constructed a barrier refined through dozens of iterations, strong enough to withstand even a God King’s strike.
Protected by the barrier, Commerce finally exhaled and collapsed to the ground. Death had felt a hair’s breadth away. Jia Gui, who was shielded behind the barrier, finally dared to poke his head out. He sprinted to Commerce’s side and dragged him into the magic tower.
“Li Xiulian, you were incredible just now! I may actually start admiring you a little,” Jia Gui said sincerely.
Commerce let out a long breath. “I had no idea I could do that either. Also, stop using my full name.”
“Alright, Xiulian!” Jia Gui replied immediately.
Commerce considered smacking him senseless. It wasn’t his surname that bothered him. It was his given name!
Outside, the Butcher realized that he had been played and erupted with fury. He channeled energy into both fists and hammered the barrier repeatedly. The barrier was resilient, but not indestructible. Under the Butcher’s relentless assault, every punch spread more fractures across its surface.
Xu Hai could only channel the magic tower’s energy to repair the barrier as quickly as the Butcher damaged it. Inside the tower, Commerce and Jia Gui were doing their best to recover while feeding additional energy into the magic tower.
It was as if the Butcher was fighting against all three of them at once instead of Xu Hai alone. His rage continued to rise. If only his Divine Authority hadn’t been shattered, this barrier would have turned to dust in a single blow.
“Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!” he roared, the outburst sounding almost like an admission of his weakness.
Standing atop the magic tower, Xu Hai had already spotted Han Wu returning. Hold on. Just a little longer, and victory will belong to the Wisdom Faction!
Han Wu tore through the rows of Major Gods from the Slaughter Faction blocking his path. The instant he set foot into Wisdom Faction territory, Xu Hai used his authority to teleport Han Wu directly to his side.
Han Wu appeared atop the magic tower. He looked down at the Slaughter God King, who had faked his death and slipped away, and smiled.
“Butcher, we aren’t done yet. Come on, let’s keep going!” Han Wu leapt from the magic tower, transformed into the Fetterbane Dragonforge, and charged straight at the Butcher.
The Butcher threw everything he had into the battle, but he no longer had the means to resist. Without the black blade, he knew that he wasn’t Han Wu’s match. Now that Han Wu had caught up to him, escape was impossible.
Nonetheless, as a God King, the Butcher had his pride. He refused to die by Han Wu’s hand. He forced some distance between them with a bitter smile and shouted at Xu Hai atop the magic tower. “Xu Hai, I did not lose to you!”
Then he turned toward Han Wu. “Kid, I admit you are powerful. I will die first, but this isn’t over between us!”
After speaking, he detonated himself. The explosion blasted Han Wu back more than ten meters. The magic tower was caught in the blast as well, and one of its corners was destroyed. The structure almost collapsed.
With the Slaughter God King’s death, the divine war came to an end. The victor was the Wisdom God King, Xu Hai!
The rewards included the vast battlefield itself, along with the complete Slaughter Jurisdiction that had belonged to the Butcher. Xu Hai also gained countless additional spoils, all of which Xu Hai needed to catalogue himself.
Han Wu let out a long breath. “Finally. It’s over.”
He exited the divine war and returned to his dorm. The extensive fighting had left him utterly exhausted, and he needed rest. He slept for three full days before waking. During that time, Undying completely healed every injury he had sustained.
When he finally woke, he found a pile of unread messages. Most were congratulatory messages from fellow students. His identity as a student of Wisdom God King was already common knowledge at Imperial College and Demonic Imperial College.
The remaining messages were more personal, from people close to him.
Qin Shuang reported that her incomplete Lightning Jurisdiction had fully stabilized and invited him to exchange notes whenever he had time. She was available anytime. Jing Jing mentioned she needed to enter seclusion for a period to consolidate her units. Sun Qingnian said that, through the pen the Wealth God King had gifted him, he had grasped a concept for a Divine Jurisdiction suited to himself and was on the verge of ascending into a Major God.
Commerce left a message explaining that Zhao Zihong had invited him to participate in a very lucrative project. The reward for assisting the Wisdom Faction had already been deposited into his account, and Jia Gui’s share had been included in the same transfer.
Xu Hai also left a message asking Han Wu to visit him once he was awake.
