Chapter 426 Answers Not Speculations
Chapter 426 Answers Not Speculations
[SICARIO]
Hudhayfah knew that the space was very much a need for Drew and Elodie. He knew they had to work this out because the safety of their teams depended on it. It wasn't daily that this happened to them but what else could they do?
"I'll be outside with these idiots if you need me!" the healer shouted as he dragged Rio and Theo outside the building, music to their displeasure. Well, to be fair, the man had sharp fingers that didn't even make any sense.
He looked like he could mine their brains with his fingers and there wasn't shit they could ever be able to do about it anyway. Or maybe there was? It was hard to tell either way.
"Yeah," Drew responded awkwardly before pulling back from the hug.
He had not been opposed to it, but even he knew that there were things that he needed to work out with Elodie; this wasn't what they dealt with daily and they had to keep that in mind regardless of what they had to attend to.
There was no denying that their lives had changed because of each other, both in the past and in the present. Though at the moment, it was the present that mattered more than anything else.
"Are you okay?" Drew asked when he saw the tears that were still polling in Elodie's eyes. In the years that Drew had known Elodie Kane, he knew the woman to be against any and all emotions.
Elodie Kane was never one to show her tears to anyone.
Hell, there we people who truly through the current alpha didn't even know what tears looked like. The woman was always emotionless as she walked around and she only ever smiled when she was around the Savasci knights.
That was pretty much the only emotion she had shown. Hell, even Malika had never seen her cry despite their interesting first meeting. Oh, but Elodie was someone who closed herself off when it came to emotions.
She knew how this looked and she didn't want to care. She didn't want to imagine what the people of Sicario would think of this encounter with Drew, but then it would always be like a shadow over her no matter how hard she tried not to think about it.
"For everything that happened in the past, and how things have been between us," Drew said and Elodie scoffed at how absurd that sounded. It was more like a half-assed apology and it probably didn't mean anything.
Maybe Drew was playing safe with her but then wanted that already obvious with how Elodie had barged in and stood there with him. Or maybe he was overthinking which was less likely because of the air around them at the moment. It wasn't pleasant in any way.
"I wasn't mature enough to handle things the way I should have and maybe I am still not someone you could consider mature enough, Elodie. I just hope that your hate for me doesn't push you into terrible decisions," Drew admitted with a bowed head, before he looked at Elodie again.
He knew that she wouldn't trust him and he hadn't exactly given her a reason to, but for the sake of peace, he hoped that she wouldn't make this harder than it already was.
Maybe that was something that she did need a reminder of, given the current state that they were in with everyone walking on eggshells and shit, but then he just had to. He couldn't let everything slip by like that.
Elodie was needed by her people and the only way they could make sense of everything was if they managed to get to the root of it all, but would they be able to?
"What was in the cargo hold of the ship, Drew?" Elodie strained out, the remainder of Mbali being there making her want to strangle the man before her, but she knew she had to be patient.
She had to be the alpha Hawi had left her to be. She had to be better than everyone else and she had to be rational. It was the only way out of this regardless of how things had turned out. It wouldn't make sense, but they could figure it out in the process, right?
"You think we painted an explosive and came with it through the impenetrable borders? You think we had magic that powerful to help us navigate? Is that what you think this is?" Drew asked like this was the most incredulous thing he had ever heard.
He was probably sounding guilty as shit, but what else could he do? They were all here at the moment and the pointers all headed in the direction of the sailors who had come with the ship.
"That is not an answer, Captain Drew," Elodie said, and Drew could have sworn he felt chills down his spine at her tone.
